READING A PAINT LABEL

Four facts
worth finding.

  1. 01

    Pigment code

P means pigment; the next letter identifies the color family; the number identifies the chemical pigment. PB29 means Pigment Blue 29.

  2. 02

    Lightfastness

This estimates resistance to fading under light. Ratings depend on the specific pigment, concentration, binder, testing method, and manufacturer.

  3. 03

    Transparency

Transparent colors support glazing and optical depth. Opaque colors cover more readily and hold their body in solid passages.

  4. 04

    Safety seal & warnings

Read the entire label and current SDS. “Natural,” “hue,” or a familiar color name does not replace product-specific safety information.
